A Camera that suits the Pocket
The new Flip Mino HD will surely delight those who had fun using its predecessors. Although there is no tremendous difference between them; yet certain features of the new version makes it smarter than the earlier ones.
The pocket camera looks slim, in fact, almost 1.5 inches slimmer than the previous model. It is stunning to look at, thanks to its metal body. Moreover, it is more comfortable to grip even with a single hand, thanks to its soft rounded edges. This is a good variation from the older models’ sharp-edged plastic body.
The new screen is sharper and bigger; it has a video resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and is 2 inches in width. However, the capacity of its internal memory is the best feature of this new camera. It is now a whopping 8GB, exactly double as compared to the previous one. One can enjoy two hours of video which was earlier confined to paltry 60 minutes. After the take-over of Flip by Cisco, certain drastic changes have been made to almost all aspects of the camera. The enhanced features of the camera are a definite sign of the same. The processor is faster too.
The HDMI port is a new feature that allows you to share videos on HD screens. This port was there earlier too but it used to be closed by an ugly looking cap. In the new model, there is a small switch that has to be pressed to remove and replace the cap. Smart, indeed. The sad part is that the new model does not come with a HDMI cable. You have to buy one for yourself separately.
There are certain things have not been taken care of. The sensor, lens, and the extremely sensitive touch pads that get activated by an accidental touch are all exactly the same as in the previous versions. These features are very infuriating. The sensor is perfect for close up shots when the lighting is appropriate. When the light is low, the result is hazy. Further, stills cannot be taken as the camera does not have the optical zoom feature.
This new pocket camera is definitely a very simple and easy-to-use camera that is suitable for recording videos. And even the price does not burn your pocket. Although the Kodak models have more enhanced features, the Flip cannot be ignored. However, in order to survive the intense competition provided by smart phones and ipod nano, both of which are known for their excellent performance, the Flip has to get rid of its flaws soon.
