GPS Tracking in Realtime on Google Maps
Hi all, apologies for the lack of updates. Ive been too busy working and playing with some new gadgets.
I must admit I still havent bored of my new Blackberry. I can see why they call them Crackberries
Its nice to be able to read my email, log on to msn, yahoo and aim while Im on the move, take pictures upload them to flickr etc etc.
Recently I started playing with Bluetooth GPS after buying a receiver from Hong Kong.
Ive found a host of GPS utilities such as
1) Wayfinder - Its like having a GPS navigation system apart from it runs on your phone shouting out directions to get to your destination.
Check it out here. You can download a trial copy to try it out
2) Mobile Tracker - Switch it on and track your journey storing waypoints and saving in kml format perfect for google earth. Check out your journey in Google earth and view it in 3D…

3) Google Maps on your mobile - Use google maps on your mobile and follow your position in realtime. Check out traffic in realtime and find services near your current location.
Download it to your mobile or pda for free here - http://www.google.com/gmm
4) The most interesting GPS technology I have seen so far however is a new website called hipoqih.com
This website is completely free and once you have setup an account you can download a plugin for your GPS device - be it a mobile, PDA or laptop. You can then hit a button called Follow Me. Your friends can then pull up a weblink provided by hipoqiu and see where you are in realtime. You can even setup a public weblink so you can run it on your website or link to it from facebook, myspace etc etc. Not for people who like to pretend they are somewhere when they arent of course. You always have the option of switching off your GPS if you are somewhere you shouldnt be
Who knows what the future holds with GPS. I suspect we will soon see websites that allow you to meet up with, date or make friends based on their position on earth..
Thats it for now folks
